11/03/2013 - Press Release: Wind Market Attractiveness - March 2013

The energy markets in established renewable energy generating countries are experiencing a period of change, with both governments and consumers seeking to reduce energy prices as budget deficits grow and energy bills increase.

However this downward pressure on prices is being offset by the continued focus on the growth of renewables and clean energy. This focus is mainly coming from requirements on governments and companies to be ‘green’.

FIM believes the market for long term investments into renewables/clean energy remains strong, especially in the UK.

04/02/2013 - New wind energy record for Great Britain

A record amount of electricity has been generated by wind energy in Great Britain, according to National Grid.

The new high was reached on Sunday morning, when wind generated more than 5 gigawatts for the first time – more than 12% of the nation’s electricity needs for industry, businesses and households – enough to power more than ten million British homes.

It’s the first time that wind energy has exceeded the 5 gigawatt threshold in Britain. Click here for more info..

18/12/2012 - Dash for gas could add £600 to energy bills by 2020, warns Committee on Climate Change

Relying on gas-fired power stations instead of investing in renewable energy could add £600 to energy bills by 2020, according to a report published by the Committee on Climate Change (CCC). Click here for more info..

18/12/2012 - The government set out a five-year plan on Tuesday to unlock the solar and biomass investment needed

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) sought to give investors the certainty they need to build new solar and biomass power plants by deciding subsidy levels over the 2013-2017 period.

26/11/2012 - Siemens has been awarded a contract for a trio of 3MW turbines at FIM Services’ recently-acquired To

The manufacturer will supply direct drive units to the 9MW wind farm, which is located near the Harthill Services on the M8 motorway linking Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The deal was reported exclusively in subscriber-only newsletter ReNews last week.

RJ McLeod will carry out balance of plant work on the North Lanarkshire project, where tips are set at up to 125 metres.

Christopher Shead, renewable investment director at FIM Services, said: “Torrance wind farm is FIM’s second wind farm with Siemens. The acquisition adds to FIM’s current portfolio of six UK onshore wind farms, taking our overall generating capacity to 61MWs.” Click here for more info..

21/11/2012 - Biomass is dirty blast is ‘absurd’

It is absurd to suggest that using sustainable biomass is dirtier than fossil fuels. Unlike fossil fuels, burning biomass to produce electricity can only release carbon which was absorbed while the biomass was growing. Burning coal releases new carbon which had been locked away underground for millions of years. Click here for more info..

08/10/2012 - Don't panic, but UK faces BLACKOUTS BY 2015

The UK risks energy shortages by 2015 or 2016, energy regulator Ofgem has predicted. The shortages will primarily be caused by EU environmental legislation forcing the early closure of coal and oil-fired power stations, it said. Click here for more info..

02/10/2012 - Liquid air 'offers energy storage hope'

Turning air into liquid may offer a solution to one of the great challenges in engineering - how to store energy. Click here for more info..
